The European Commission has presented the Cyber Resilience Act proposal. The proposal should apply to any device that can connect to another, or to the Internet.
The purpose of the proposal is to make device security, through legislation, no longer voluntarily required of manufacturers. If adopted, this will apply to all manufacturers who continue to make their products available in the European market.
The proposal will first be considered by the European Parliament and also the Council of Ministers. They may also propose amendments. If the proposal is adopted, European member states will have two years to prepare for it. If it passes, it will therefore take some time before it reaches consumers.
